This summer, the wonderful team at our corporate charity partner Ferrovial Construction took on a truly ambitious and imaginative challenge in aid of our families – walking from London to Sydney and back again in the Big Ben to Bondi: Stay active challenge.

Worry not – nobody got wet in the process – the idea was for Ferrovial employees in both the UK and Australia to walk the equivalent number of steps for the full distance between the two cities: a modest 17,000km.

The month-long challenge encouraged teams to improve their wellbeing through exercise and movement. The competition also coincided with Mental Health Awareness Week, which was an opportunity to bring light to the often unseen mental impact caring for a seriously ill child has on parents, carers and siblings.

Throughout the challenge various events and activities were organised, including webinars, a charity roadshow which saw us give in-person talks across the company’s iconic project sites including HS2 and Heathrow Airport, and a 23km ‘Wellbeing Walk’ through the Chiltern Hills. Photos from the Wellbeing Walk are shown below, of what proved to be a gloriously sunny expedition!

React’s own @Hayley, @Dan and @Conor also toured more than eight Ferrovial Construction offices and sites across three different counties, showing the team how their fundraising makes a truly positive difference to the children and families we assist each and every day.

The challenge was a great success and by its conclusion, a fantastic £5,435 was raised for React. We want to send our sincere thanks to everybody at Ferrovial who participated, and for contributing to the ongoing success of our new corporate partnership.
