Harrison on Holiday

Ten month old Harrison lives with many complex, life-limiting illnesses and React is delighted to have assisted his family in more ways than one.
Born three months prematurely, Harrison’s start to life was a shock to all. Harrison’s twin passed away early in the womb, and whilst his Mother Georgia knew it was never going to be an easy delivery, the difficulty was beyond what anyone expected. The family were rushed by ambulance to a specialist ward far from home, where Georgia and newborn Harrison – who weighed only one pound – spent the next six weeks.
Harrison’s health eventually stabilised and he was moved off intensive care, although remained under close supervision. However, his time away from the ICU ward was to be short-lived. When doctors attempted take Harrison off oxygen, he struggled to breathe and they found the damage to his lungs is so severe, it was considered unsurvivable. Knowing Harrison would be staying in hospital for considerably longer than anticipated, an application was made to React to assist the family with travel costs whilst Harrison was an inpatient and his Dad, Matthew, needed to give up work to be as supportive to Geogria as possible.
Harrison’s family were amazed by the speed of the charity’s help, which provided some small relief whilst their beloved boy whilst he was so ill. Once Harrison’s health started to recoupe, Harrison was discharged and eventually he was deemed stable enough for his family to consider applying for a respite holiday.
React was only too happy to book the family into a mobile home to enable them to make the most of precious time together. As Georgia told us: “The holiday was incredible! For first time ever we could enjoy the beach as a family, which we had never done before. He is such a happy little boy and he had the time of his life”.
We were delighted to support Harrison and his family. React believes holidays are an essential need and proud to provide respite breaks to families who care for terminally ill child. If you would like to apply, please do not hesitate to get in touch: Contact Us • REACT
